Lynsey Logan
"Best Practice Network has been a cornerstone in my professional journey!"
Who are you?
My name is Lynsey Logan, and I am the Head of Primary at Braeburn International School Arusha (BISA) in Tanzania.
I’ve been teaching since 2006, with extensive international experience in Scotland, the Czech Republic, Ghana, Vietnam, and now Tanzania. Over the past decade, I’ve progressed from middle to senior leadership roles. When I transitioned to Head of Primary from Deputy Head of Primary, I saw the NPQH as the perfect way to prepare for the challenges ahead.
Why did you choose the NPQH?
I’ve always been passionate about learning, believing that continuous professional development is essential for effective leadership.
When I stepped into my new role, I faced the usual doubts of imposter syndrome. Thankfully, I had a six-month transition period where the outgoing Head of Primary mentored me. Still, I knew I needed a structured way to build my knowledge and confidence. The NPQH offered just that—a gateway to a wealth of resources, insights, and real-world leadership strategies.
How did you find the learning experience?
Adapting to online learning took some effort, but the flexibility of the NPQH programme made it manageable.
I blocked time in my calendar to stay on track and found the virtual learning environment intuitive and engaging. Collaborating with fellow Braeburn educators and international colleagues was a real highlight. The virtual sessions fostered rich discussions, and the supportive peer environment helped everyone progress together.
The one-on-one coaching sessions with Sharon, my Leadership Development Coach, were particularly valuable. She guided me through challenges in my role, helping me apply NPQH principles practically. Her mentorship played a pivotal role in shaping my leadership style and giving me the confidence to lead effectively.
What were your key takeaways?
The NPQH provided me with tools to manage change, plan strategically, lead with compassion, and handle difficult conversations. These skills have been invaluable in my day-to-day role. The course’s alignment with my responsibilities at BISA was remarkable, especially during our expansion of SEN provision and navigating challenging personnel situations. The NPQH helped me lead with clarity, ensuring better outcomes for both staff and students.
Would you recommend Best Practice Network?
Absolutely! Best Practice Network has been a cornerstone in my professional journey.
Their accessible learning platform, high-quality materials, and excellent coaching support have made this experience enriching and impactful. I would strongly encourage other educators to pursue NPQs with Best Practice Network to enhance their leadership journey.
Completing the NPQH has been a transformative milestone in my career. It has not only solidified my confidence as a headteacher but also opened doors to further professional achievements, including becoming a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching (FCCT). I’m excited about what the future holds, equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact in education.
